With the draft finished, the NFL offseason (frequently defined by teams releasing and acquiring players, coaches, front offices people, etc.) comes to an end. For the most part, the players the Colts hold the rights to now are the ones who will show up and play in the first preseason game in August. Thus, we take this time to evaluate and examine the moves made by Jim Irsay and his first year general manager, Ryan Grigson. This series will breakdown the player loses, the free agent signings, the draft, and the undrafted rookie signings. We started out with who the Colts lost. We also talked…

    Brad Wells
    15 May 2012 | 10:36 am
There is a common statement going around the league that teams like the Colts (who just drafted two high quality TEs) are copying the offensive success of the 2011 AFC Champion Patriots. Part of the reason it's common is because the Colts leadership has consistently cited the Patriots as a source of inspiration. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano on 5/5/2012, answering a question about why the Colts are using a two-TE offense: It's a match-up nightmare. Coming off the AFC Championship Game, nobody knew that better than the Ravens going into that game with the two guys [the Patriots] have. It's…

Andrew Luck’s first full weekend in Indianapolis has already given him a glimpse into what rookie life will be like. He’s getting acclimated to a new locker room, new teammates and a new playbook, all while contending with the seemingly impossible job of replacing one of the city’s biggest sports icons, Peyton Manning. Welcome to Indy, kid. The kickoff officially came Saturday night, when Luck’s second day of rookie workouts at the Colts complex was upstaged by Manning’s return to Indianapolis. The Colts have claimed running back Deji Karim off waivers from the Jaguars. A sixth round pick out of Southern Illinois in 2010, Karim has 98 carries for 290 yards, 17 receptions for 130 yards out of the backfield, and has averaged 24.7 yards on 77 kick returns in 23 games over the last two seasons. Karim has two seasons remaining on his current contract and is scheduled to earn $565,000 in base salary this season. • Colts Go TE in Round Two – Take Coby Fleener to Team with Luck

    Matt Loede
    27 Apr 2012 | 6:20 pm
The Colts have brought in someone close to Andrew Luck to catch passes from him – as the team picked Stanford TE Coby Flenner with their second round pick. Here’s a Scouting Report on Fleener: Fleener has been a consistent producer for Stanford over the past few seasons. He was second for the Cardinal in receiving in 2011. Fleener caught 34 passes for 667 yards and 10 touchdowns. Throughout the season, he was a steady and reliable receiver for quarterback Andrew Luck. In the NFL, Fleener should be a good target to exploit the deep middle of the field. He was very skilled at…

  • The Indianapolis Colts claimed RB Deji Karim off waivers

    admin
    14 May 2012 | 1:29 pm
The Indianapolis Colts have claimed 25-year old RB/KR Deji Karim off waivers from the Jaguars.  Karim played in 12 games for the Jaguars last year in which he carried the ball 63 times for 130 yards (2.1 ypc).  He also caught 14 passes for 120 yards (8.6 avg) last year.  Karim didn’t stop there though as he returned 27 kickoffs for 652 yards (24.1 avg) for the Jags last year.  Karim has now played in 23 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 98 times for 290 yards (3.0 ypc).  He also has caught 17 passes for 130 yards (7.6 avg) and he has returned 77…
  • The Indianapolis Colts picked QB Chandler Harnish in the 7th round

    14 May 2012 | 1:25 pm
The Indianapolis Colts selected QB Chandler Harnish out of Northern Illinois with the 253rd overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Harnish is 6’1″, 219 pounds and he runs a 4.75 40.  Harnish played mostly in the shotgun in college and he was very sharp on shorter passes.  The further he threw the ball down the field, the less effective he became.  Harnish played in 14 games (all starts) for Northern Illinois last year and he completed 237 of 384 passes (61.7%) for 3,216 yards with 28 TD passes and only 6 interceptions.  Harnish played in 47 games (45 starts) in his…

    14 May 2012 | 1:20 pm
The Indianapolis Colts selected OLB/DE Tim Fugger out of Vanderbilit with the 214th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Fugger is 6’3″, 248 pounds and he runs a 4.63 40.  He gets by on being a guy whose motor runs hot all of the time.  He doesn’t have any standout skills but he really stepped up as a senior.  Fugger played in 13 games (all starts) for Vanderbilt last year and he had 33 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, 8 sacks, 4 batted balls and 3 forced fumbles.  Fugger played in 46 games (31 starts) in his four years in college and he had 90 tackles,…

    14 May 2012 | 1:05 pm
The Indianapolis Colts selected OT Justin Anderson out of Georgia with the 208th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Anderson is a huge man at 6’4″, 339 pounds.  Anderson is a much better run blocker to this point in his career, as he has problems with speed rushers.  The Colts will try to get him to improve his footwork before he gets on the field to block for franchise QB Andrew Luck.  Anderson played in 14 games (all starts) last year for Georgia.  He played in 40 games (26 starts) in his four years for the Bulldogs.  This was a nice developmental pick for…

    14 May 2012 | 12:59 pm
The Indianapolis Colts took WR LaVon Brazill out of Ohio U. with the 206th overall pick (6th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Brazill is on the small side at 5’11″, 191 pounds but he runs a very swift 4.49 40.  Brazill projects to be a slot receiver in the NFL.  He played in 14 games (10 starts) at Ohio U. last year and he caught 74 passes for 1,146 yards (15.5 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  Brazill played in 49 games (39 starts) in his five years in college and he caught 189 passes for 2,511 yards (13.3 avg) with 18 TD grabs.  He also returned 62 punts for 668 yards (10.8 avg) with 4…

  • Which Team Has The Best Shot At Worst-To-First?

    16 May 2012 | 12:31 pm
Carrington Harrison had a good question for me during out KC Chiefs talk on 610 Sports today: Which team that finished in last place in their division in 2011 has the best chance of finishing in first place in 2012? The old worst-to-first question... Your options are: Bills, Browns, Colts, Chiefs, Redskins, Vikings, Buccaneers and Rams. Despite my effort to avoid being a Chiefs homer, I picked KC. They were the only seven-game winner on the list and, even though they finished in last place in 2011, they were also a game out of first place, which no other team on this list can say. My rank of…
